4th of July!

4th of July is my favorite holiday!  It's in the summertime, it's during my birthday month, I love how everyone is super patriotic and I like the fireworks and cookouts that come with it!

Here are some red, white, and blue pieces in honor of the 4th!

Wilmington Recap

I learned a few things in Wilmington this past weekend.

1 - I am bad when it comes to taking pictures for this here blog.  I never forget to take pictures when I'm out of me and my friends, but I rarely take pictures of other stuff to put on here.  Like the fabulous beach boutiques we went to on Saturday.  (We all know how dangerous this shopping trip was for me...) or how dark it was on the beach on Sunday while it was thundering and lightning profusely, but not raining.  I am going to get better at this whole non-people picture taking thing.

2 -  I think I finally have my dilemma, of having a super pale face in pictures, figured out.  Well I mean, at least now that it's summertime :-)  Thanks to one of your comments (I can't remember who it was), I learned that the massive amount of SPF that I was wearing in my moisturizer was causing some of the paleness due to the camera flash.  I now (but only at night!) will wear a non-spf moisturizer if I'm going to be taking pictures.  I am also loving NARS Orgasm blush and with a dabbb of bronzer swiped over it!

3 - People apparently really like my hair curly. I had complete strangers telling me they liked my hair on Saturday night... I have been embracing the curls lately (I like to think of it as my beach look...) and would like to say thank you to the two gallons of frizz products I use every time I wear it curly to help keep my hair from looking like a hairstyle that was very popular in the late 60's and early 70's...

4 - I need to chill out with the potato chips.  I downed a half-a-can of salt n' vinegar Pringles on Friday afternoon in less than 5 minutes.. wooops.

Here are a few of the "people" pictures I took this weekend.  Thanks to Carmen for a wonderful weekend of shopping, girl chats, eating out, and beachin' it, I can't wait to go back!!

Key West Memories

This time last year I was in Key West with my best friend Carmen.  I can't believe it has already been a year... We had such a great time and I would love to go back.  Here are some fun memories from our trip.

This was right before we went snorkeling.  The waves were stronger than they normally are and I, of course, get sidetracked looking at coral and look up and realize I am really far away from the boat... I'm talking like the people in the water with our group looked like dots.  I had to do some intense swimming to get back over there, buttttt all it was worth it. I saw some pretty coral and sea urchins!

Ode to Jack Rogers Part II

Yesterday, I posted all about my love for Jack Rogers and today I have a new way to show my dedication for my favorite shoe... I have written a poem about ol' Jack.  I wrote it in the sense that Jack Roger is a man, and not really a shoe...well it's some of both.  Enjoy!

Mr. Jack Roger
(In reference to the Navajo sandal)

Jack Roger, Jack Roger, you are the perfect shoe,
From April til’ October, I wear nothing but you.
From cookouts to weddings, you go everywhere with me,
You tailgate, you party and collect shells by the sea.

You are full of many colors, my favorite is gold,
Your style and your charm will never get old.
You’re a beautiful "sole", so tried and so true,
Even though I know I'm extremely rough on you.

You’re a classy man, my heart be still,
You can be my Jack and I’ll be your Jill.
When all other guys may break my heart,
Mr. Jack Roger, I know we’ll never part!

Ode to Jack Rogers Part I

On this first day of summer, I thought it would be perfect for me to talk about my favorite summer shoe.  You've heard me talk about Jack Rogers on here time and time again, I normally refer to them as my "JRs."  Other than my Rainbows, I really don't wear any other shoes from April through October.  (I wish I wore tennis shoes more because that would mean I'm working out, but that's another story...)  I am not a fan of heels, so when I learned about four years ago that I could get away with wearing Jack Rogers (flats!) and still look semi-dressy, I gave up heels for good.  I've only worn them since when I've been a bridesmaid... and even then, the JRs are in my purse to rescue my feet after about five minutes.  To me they really are the perfect shoe.

Below is my collection of JRs (minus the beat up, broken gold pair in the top of my closet that I just can't bear to throw away.)    The platinum ones on the left were my first pair ever and I still wear them to concerts, TBMF, things of that nature.  The red and black ones are for tailgating and for reppin' my NC State pride, I can't wait to rock them in September!  I got the coral/pink pair as a birthday gift and they are a fun change from my metallics. I love to wear these when I need some color with my outfit.

These next two pictures really crack. me. up.  I was on my way to the beach for Memorial Day weekend and I saw this sign on the side of the road.  Trust me...it sticks out, you cannot miss it.  and yes, that's a trailer that they have the sign displayed on...

and this, my friends, is the store that was selling them... Just goes to show that pretty much everybody loves Jack Rogers! They may have a new showroom in the heart of New York City, but the Country View Western Store in Goldsboro, North Carolina are rocking JRs as well!

and speaking of country western stuff, I wore JRs to a rodeo, a real bull ropin' and ridin' rodeo, in Texas.

These next two pictures are from my 25th birthday.  I was STOKED about my new gold pair of JRs my friends Kristen and Kristen gave me (these have since been beat, they are the ones I speak of that are in the top of my closet...)  Didn't they looked beautiful with my seashell birthday cake?!  Remember the picture of the boat I showed you a few weeks back that we ran aground?? These Jack Rogers almost went overboard on the FIRST night I ever wore them.  Let's just say I was more worried about losing them than I was about the fact that we were stranded on an island in the middle of the sound at 2:00 in the morning...

Hope you've enjoyed my stories and praise about JRs!  Tomorrow is Part II of my Ode to Jack Rogers.  I got creative...

Stay tuned!

Guest Post - The Preppy Vegan

Hello! Today I am posting over at The Preppy Vegan, sharing one of my favorite summer recipies.  While I'm vegetarian and not vegan, I am looking to cut back on the 14 lbs of cheddar cheese I eat a week...  I was really excited to find The Preppy Vegan becuase I really need to become a vegetable-eating vegetarian.  I am pretty much a carb-itarian now...

Check me out over there to get an idea of how it is to grow up a vegetarian in the meat-eating south.  A hint...it's not easy :-)

(and just a side note... I totally do not care if people eat meat, I just never liked the taste of it, so I stopped eating it.  I don't mind hunting either, afterall, I was raised in the counnn-try)

Friday's Fancies - 16

I'm linking up once again with {av} of {long distance loving} for Friday's Fancies!  This weekend I am babysitting and on Saturday we are going to the pool, so I have put together a dream pool day look.  This might be a litttttttle lavish for babysitting, but hey, that's what Friday's Fancies is about right?!  I also can't wait to celebrate Father's Day with my dad on Sunday. I got him something he really wants, and he NEVER asks for anything or even wants anything. Should be fun!

Hope you all have a great weekend!
